my Flexispot Large Standing Desk* + memory presets

Table of Contents

This desk is fantastic!! It has a motor that raises and lowers the desktop/tabletop and even has 4 presets that you can set and customize for multiple users or different heights. The motor is fairly quiet, the tabletop is smooth with no cracks or gaps as it comes in one solid piece, and assembly was easy. I absolutely LOVE my desk!

I also did a fair bit of research on standing desks (some of which is shared below) before purchasing anything, not knowing anything about motors or how sturdy these things actually were. I was also buying my under-desk treadmill at the same time. So for this experiment, I didn’t want to spend a fortune on the desk, in addition to the treadmill, and so I wanted to make sure my desk would be at or less than $300-$500, giving myself a total budget of between $500 - $1,000 for BOTH the desk and the under-desk treadmill.

I got almost everything on my desk-wishlist, except drawer storage, but that’s not the end of the world, and spent less than $300!

    my wishlist:

    • tabletop came in one piece

      • cheaper ones tend to come in 2-3 sections, leaving cracks down the middle or down a third of the tabletop in two spots.

    • 3-stage height adjustment, larger range & more stable

      • I just trusted the experts on this one & hoped for the best!

    • minimal assembly required, because… motors, 😂 and I hate assembling furniture

      • this desk took me about 30-40 minutes to assemble by myself, and even though it’s heavy & 55in wide, I was able to stand it up and move it into place, no problem!

      • it comes in 2 boxes, one for the tabletop and one for the base assembly; the base arrived first & the tabletop arrived the next day

      • All of the important parts were already together, like the two legs, the mechanism that connects to them & holds the motor, etc so all I needed to do was connect the two legs to the part which connected them and mounted to the tabletop. Instructions were minimal, mostly in pictures.

    • memory presets for at least 2 heights

      • this desk has 4 memory presets and a manual up/down button with an LED display for the height, which allows me to press a button to change positions from sitting to walking while I put on my shoes & roll the treadmill under my desk & my chair out of the way

      • the holes for this were only partially drilled into the bottom of the tabletop, so you can choose which side to place the control panel which is nice but you will want a powered screwdriver/drill to screw it in and create holes that were not pre-drilled; this also makes the rest of the screws go in much faster.

    • desk space for around 60in/152cm wide and at least 24in/60cm deep

      • this was about the same desk width/depth I’d be replacing my old L-shape desk with

      • I didn’t want something smaller than what I’d already had because I have two screens, desk speakers + a microphone stand

    • good height range from about 28in/71cm to 45in/115cm

      • I’m 5ft 6in/1.7m and wanted to make sure it’d be high enough to work comfortably while also walking on a treadmill deck

    • anti-collision sensor

      • a great safety feature: this stops it from moving up/down if it senses resistance because something is in the way

      • this EN1 desk has it & I can attest that it works very well, with 3 different sensitivity settings and I think you can turn it off entirely.

        • Once I started raising it for a walk and set my 32oz water bottle on it, somewhat heavily, it stopped raising immediately and started again when I pressed the button a second time. Great to know it won’t continue to raise or lower if it shouldn’t, whether because a cord gets snagged or a pet is underneath it, etc. This protects us & the life of the motor!

    • some drawer storage space, if possible

      • one of Flexispots desks in the $400-500 range does have one large drawer under the tabletop but the one I bought does not, so I’ll just get a little tower of drawers instead; not the end of the world & most standing desks don’t have drawer space because of the table support and motor, etc.

This desk and this brand of standing desks seemed the most reputable and well-built for the price and consistently showed up in reviews of best standing desks under $500. You can decide for yourself, and I encourage you to add your own research too before you decide what will work best for you and your office space!
