I have never been happier to announce a new Squarespace feature as I am today! It’s the nerdiest of things, but IDGAF. 😂

I’ve been dying for this & most recently submitted a feature request in the last 6-ish months.

It seems Squarespace listened (& probably had this requested from a lot of other people too, because –duh.)

I’ve been blogging on Squarespace for 5 years now and I have (what feels like, to me) a lot of posts to sift through in my list of tags these days.

God forbid I need to locate one of my earlier posts where I tagged it with a shorthand version of the actual blog post title,…

Me: “what was the name of that post about pairing fonts again?”

Me: scrolling for 10 minutes, from top to bottom & over again until I find it

When I rebranded last fall, I was having to relink a ton of shit on my site and finally reached out to Squarespace to see if updates to the Summary Block –bare minimum, alphabetizing the tags list– was anywhere on their radar.

I don’t know if it was at that time or not, but I asked them to put it on the feature request list because I and many other bloggers on Squarespace I knew, would be immensely grateful for not having to slog through that seemingly, totally randomly organized tag list anymore.

The agent I spoke with said he added it to the list, and I moved on with my life. 😂

Then out of nowhere, maybe 1-2 months ago, while I was logged in my tags were alphabetized, so I wrote a blog post about it. I came back the next day to finish up that post, schedule it & write the email for it –when I realized they were no longer alphabetized.

    Womp. Womp!

To say that I was ‘bummed’ doesn’t cover it. But I put the post on hold & figured that glitch probably just meant they were working on adding that feature.

So you can imagine my pure GLEE when I discovered it had finally been released today & I got that confirmed from a Squarespace support agent before telling you about it.

It should be available for all users, not just a limited or slow rollout, etc.

What specifically has changed? I won’t keep ya waiting any longer!

    NEW FEATURE #1

Listed tags are now organized alphabetically

    …inside Summary Block settings!

    This. Is. HUGE!!

If you’re new to blogging then you might not quite get the frustration of scrolling through that list looking for whatever tag you named that blog post 3 years ago.

If you’re not new to blogging on Squarespace, then jump up & down & squeal with glee with me, because holy shit, holy shit, holy shit –I can’t believe it took this long to get something so simple! 😂

So basically what this means is, when you go into your Summary Block settings, from any page that has one, you choose the page it pulls data from, then you choose a filter to narrow the list of what it shows.

    Here’s what that looks like:

Filterable tags are now ALPHABETIZED!! 🎉

    NEW FEATURE #2

How to use MULTIPLE filters in Summary Blocks

Blogs frequently use this filtering feature in Summary Blocks to show recent posts in a category on their blog, and I use it at the bottom of every post to show related content, which means it only shows posts that are in the same category as whatever this one is.

You can also filter the Summary Block to only show things with a single tag. So for example, I have a FloDesk tag, an SEO tag, a Dubsado tag, etc. which shows an extremely filtered list of all the posts with that tag, no matter what category they are in.

But say you want to filter the list to more than one tag &/or category?

Before now that hasn’t been possible, –but today it is!

Squarespace quietly released this feature update. I was so shocked that I disabled my beloved Squarespace extensions just to make sure it wasn’t an update to one of them, working with Squarespace to show that new feature. When that passed the test, I logged into my website in a private browser to disable ALL of my browser extensions JUST to be doubly sure it was a Squarespace feature I was seeing/using.

Then I reached out to Squarespace to triple-check, because, well, I wanted to be damn sure it wasn’t just a glitch somehow. And bingo! Even the agent said they didn’t know about it, but it had been quietly released. 😂

So! I’ll stop yappin’ about it & show ya the goods:

What are you waiting for?! Go take a look yourself and see if choosing filters for your Summary Blocks just got a LOT easier!

    Filters? For what-now? 😳
